This will be a fascinating one, where we have the top seed looking to reclaim the top spot in the ATP rankings as he takes on the quirky crowd favorite with a very unique game. Who will triumph and move on to the quarterfinals at the Miami Open 2022?
Daniil Medvedev has been playing solid so far, not dropping a set or going past the 6-4 mark. He’s been serving better as opposed to the last couple of months since Australia and overall just playing more consistently and with more measured aggression. He has his toughest opponent yet ahead of him though in Jenson Brooskby. Brooksby did Medvedev a favor by knocking out RBA, a very hard matchup for Medvedev, but Brooksby can bring many of the same problems that RBA would bring. I do expect Medvedev to fight through as Brooksby doesn’t really have many weapons which RBA has to finish points, since if Medvedev is on, he will counter Brooksby perfectly, it’s his match to lose as he aims to book a spot in the last 8 yet again at the Miami Open 2022.
Jenson Brooksby fought back from an 0-4 deficit in the 3rd set to win his 4th round match against RBA and set up a meeting with top seed Daniil Medvedev. We know how mentally tough he is, and with a win last week against Tsitsipas, he’ll be looking to take down another top tier player on the ATP Tour. He has the potential to do so, especially if Medvedev is playing poorly. However, Brooksby’s style generally relies on his consistency and defense/counter punching. Medvedev does this same thing, but he does it even better along with many other aspects to his game which give him a clear edge over Brooksby: a better serve, return, and the ability to play aggressively, an underrated part of his game. I don’t think it’ll be easy for Medvedev, but he should get this one done as he aims to move on to the quarterfinals at the Miami Open 2022.
Daniil Medvedev and Jenson Brooksby have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s a fascinating matchup for sure, with both players being able to play very consistently from the line and make some excellent defensive plays. Medvedev though won’t simply play the really long rallies from the back of the court, he’ll move the ball around forcing quite a few short balls as well as maintaining a high level on serve like we’ve seen in his first two matches. Let’s see if Medvedev can get it done at the Miami Open 2022.
