TennisSection previews the 2022 Miami Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Alex de Minaur in the Round of 32 on Monday, March 28th, 2022.
Will Stefanos Tsitsipas get the win? Will Alex de Minaur pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have one of the top players in the world taking on the talented young Australian looking to get himself up there. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Miami Open?
Stefanos Tsitsipas got a tough win over Wolf, needing 3 sets but firmly dominating the 3rd set. His level wasn’t bad, but I don’t necessarily expect him to regroup here and make up for some poor results in the last few weeks. He has a very hard opponent coming up in Alex de Minaur, and I think with the way the 2 play and with his current level, he might just come up short against the “demon”. Let’s see if he can meet expectations though at the 2022 Miami Open.
Alex de Minaur got a very solid win, showing he’s ready to step it up and make some moves in the bigger stages. He has a very hard opponent ahead of him as he looks to take down World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas. I think he has a good game to play him since de Minaur plays pretty flat and is able to really stay in the long, slower rallies. Tsitsipas likes to play more aggressively and flat on the hardcourts, sort of like a Federer gameplan, but he struggles to execute it in many instances, especially on the backhand where it becomes too slow and heavy, forcing him to miss a lot of balls. I think we saw Wolf expose that wing last night and we’ll see de Minaur do it even better as he aims to pull off the upset and move on to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Miami Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex de Minaur have met 7 times before, with Stefanos Tsitsipas leading the head to head 7-0. The two have played quite a bit, and Tsitsipas soundly leads the head to head 7-0. While it may seem like Tsitsipas has him figured out, de Minaur has never really been in a consistent spot with his game for years, while Tsitsipas has. I think in Indian Wells last year we saw what de Minaur can do, and that it can be a close matchup. I still think the backhand cross court is great for him against Tsitsipas and the fact that his defense is so good it will really help him with the aggression that Tsitsipas will try to bring. Let’s see if the Australian can pull off the upset to get his 1st win in 8 meetings at the 2022 Miami Open.
