Miami Open 2022: Jannik Sinner vs. Nick Kyrgios Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Miami Open as Jannik Sinner takes on Nick Kyrgios in the fourth round on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022.

The matchup that never happened at Indian Wells has materialized at the Miami Open. There is plenty of excitement in the buildup to this power-hitting contest between Jannik Sinner and Nick Kyrgios. Both players have demonstrating contrasting forms in reaching this stage of the tournament. So, who will prevail?

Jannik Sinner defeated Pablo Carreno Busta in one of the most entertaining matches on Sunday at the Miami Open. For the second match running, the 20-year-old Italian staved off match points to book his spot in the fourth round. The match took three hours and 11 minutes of attritional baseline exchanges to decide it. And it was Sinner who found his A-game in the pivotal moment of the match in game 10 of the third set when he held serve after nearly 11 minutes. He saved four match points in that game and five in total in the match. He will meet Nick Kyrgios for the first time.

Nick Kyrgios, meanwhile, maintained his standing as one of the ATP’s most improved performers in 2022. The Australian wild card secured his place in the fourth round without dropping a set after laying waste to the likes of Andrey Rublev and Fabio Fognini. In a match that was sure to get the crowd on their feet, it was Kyrgios who overwhelmed Italy’s Fognini, hammering 10 aces and winning 85% first-serve points. The two-time Miami Open semifinalist picked up his seventh win in the process and will face another Italian for a place in the last eight.

Jannik Sinner and Nick Kyrgios have not faced each other on the ATP Tour. Two week ago, the pair were scheduled to meet in the fourth round of Indian Wells, but Sinner withdrew due to illness. But it hasn’t taken long for the draw to pit them together at the Miami Open where Kyrgios is looking to continue his irresistible run of form. Kyrgios is playing Top-10 tennis right now and he hasn’t checked off one bit. Sinner has been playing with fire since the start of the tournament and it is hard to bet against the Aussie in this one.
