Will Cameron Norrie get the win? Will Nikoloz Basilashvili pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have a rematch of the final last year in the third round. Who will triumph to move through to the Round of 16 at Indian Wells 2022?
Cameron Norrie got a very nice win to kick off his campaign here as the defending champion, and in front of him – the defending finalist in Nikoloz Basilashvili. While Norrie has been in form and we know how much he will like the conditions, this is also Basilashvili’s favorite court. Basilashvili isn’t in form though, and if Norrie could do it last year against the hardest hitting Basilashvili I’ve ever seen, I think he can back it up this year against the Georgian as he aims to move on at Indian Wells 2022.
Nikoloz Basilashvili got through to this meeting at Indian Wells with Cameron Norrie with a walkover as Fognini withdrew, not really good news for him considering that he has no match practice before going into this one. I don’t think it’s a good matchup for him either as Norrie loves absorbing the pace and using it against his opponent, Basilashvili is one of the hardest hitters on the ATP Tour, but what can he really do to damage the number one Brit as he aims to somehow get the upset and progress at Indian Wells 2022.
Cameron Norrie and Nikoloz Basilashvili have met twice before, with Cameron Norrie leading the head to head 2-0. Their two meetings both came last year in Rotterdam and of course in last year’s final here. It was a contested match, and I do think Basilashvili will give him trouble just because he can hit so big and use the court speed to his advantage, but in the end Norrie will outlast him to move on at Indian Wells 2022.
