TennisSection previews the 2021 Dubai Open as Roberto Bautista Agut (4) meets Jannik Sinner (16) in the Third Round on Wednesday, March 17th 2021.
Will Jannik Sinner be able to get one of the biggest victories of his career under his belt by causing the upset against the No.4 seed Roberto Bautista Agut, or will the former Dubai Champion continue to play at such a high level and dominate most of his opponents on the ATP Tour? Both players can win this encounter if on top of their game, but who will be the better player on the day?
Jannik Sinner put on a superb comeback performance in the second round here in Dubai, beating the in form Alexander Bublik in 3 sets. Sinner came back from a set down and eventually won it 2-6/7-6(2)/6-4. Sinner showed great determination and ability to concentrate during the tough moments throughout that match and he showed us why there is so much hype surrounding him. Jannik has a bright future ahead of him, and he will definitely make the Top 10 in the world in the next 2-3 years in my opinion. Sinner has a great serve, and he is able to move quickly around the court, which for a player of his size, is not usually seen. How will Jannik Sinner deal with a great returner, and a player who is on top of his game, in Roberto Bautista Agut in this Third Round encounter?
Roberto Bautista Agut will be very pleased with his result in the second round, leading 4-1, 40-0, in the first set against Matthew Ebden, before Ebden retired due to the same injury which saw him retire in the Semi-finals of the Marseille Open last week. Roberto Bautista Agut was playing some great tennis for that short period of time, and I am sure he will have gone to practice some more after that short encounter to ensure he gets his game up to speed before Wednesday. Roberto Bautista Agut is one of the more consistent players on the ATP Tour, showing us that he can get the job done against some of the toughest players just by continuously rallying and tiring them out. RBA is a former champion here in Dubai, and if he continues to play at this level, I am sure he can do it again in 2021.
On the ATP Tour, Jannik Sinner and Roberto Bautista Agut have never met, and this will be their first encounter. However, they have met in an exhibition tournament last year, where Jannik Sinner won. Although Sinner won that match, the match had no meaning, and neither player put it all on the line there. In this real competition encounter, I am very confident in Roberto Bautista Agut’s ability to continue his domination in the ATP Tour by knocking out the up and coming Italian. RBA is just playing at a different level this year, and he is great in these hot hard-court conditions. I expect this to perhaps be a 3-setter as Jannik Sinner is always a tough opponent to come up against, but Roberto Bautista Agut should make his way to the Quarter-finals in Dubai.
