TennisSection previews the 2022 Australian Open as Jannik Sinner takes on Taro Daniel in the Round of 32 on Saturday, January 22nd, 2021.
Will Jannik Sinner get the win? Will Taro Daniel pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have the young Italian prospect and already established top 10 player taking on a surprise opponent. Who will move on to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Australian Open?
Jannik Sinner got a great win to book this meeting with Taro Daniel, who took down tennis legend Andy Murray to get here. Sinner will likely stomp past Daniel, having been crushing the ball and storming through the draw, he will likely have little problems with a player who does not have much experience at the top level. Sinner is probably the favorite to make it out of this quarter of the draw in terms of current level, and I definitely expect him to at least make it to a position to fight for that semifinal spot. Let’s see if he can keep going here at the 2022 Australian Open.
Taro Daniel got a shock win over tennis legend Andy Murray, knocking him out in straight sets after Murray pulled off an excellent win over 21st seed Basilashvili. In order to take out Sinner, he’s going to have to try to extend the rallies, he likely doesn’t have the capacity to play an all-out aggressive game to take advantage of Sinner’s relatively weak defense, so if he can just extend the rallies and draw unforced errors from Sinner, he will have a shot at the fourth round at the 2022 Australian Open.
Jannik Sinner and Taro Daniel have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Daniel managed to take down Murray 4, 4, and 4, a very convincing scoreline. Murray clearly was struggling though, and Sinner will have none of those problems. He plays a very aggressive game, while also managing to stay pretty steady at the same time, almost resembling Djokovic, just a bigger player in the sense of how he strikes the ball. Daniel will not have the level to defeat him, and Sinner very well may still show the inconsistencies in his game, but ultimately, he will come through this match and book himself a spot in the fourth round here at the 2022 Australian Open.
