Although he is not the second best Croatian in the team in terms of ranking, he has been the standout underdog in their team all tournament. Now, Borna will want to cause another upset and get an early lead for his team, but he meets a determined Dusan Lajovic.
Dusan Lajovic is the only player who won an opening match for Team Serbia here at the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, so I believe they will pick him to play this starting match. Dusan is experienced and has had some big wins under his belt in indoor hard court conditions this year, such as when he beat Daniil Medvedev. With his one-handed backhand, Dusan is able to change direction easily and he often takes the ball early as well. Will the experienced Serb get an early lead for Team Serbia?
Dusan Lajovic and Borna Gojo have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Borna Gojo will come out here determined to get the job done as he knows that he will be free to play as at the end of the day, Team Croatia are not favourites to go through this tie. However, Dusan Lajovic will know and will have watched Borna’s matches to ensure he knows what to expect when he comes on the court. This match could go either way as it really depends how much time either player can take away from the other, but I think this is going to be a very long match.
