Paris Masters 2021: Alex de Minaur vs. Lloyd Harris Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Paris Masters as Lloyd Harris takes on Alex de Minaur in the Round of 64 on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021.

Will Lloyd Harris get the win? Will Alex de Minaur pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have a tight first round matchup. Who will move on to the Round of 32 at the 2021 Paris Masters?

Lloyd Harris has been having an incredible year, making deep runs consistently in tournaments, playing a very versatile game containing excellent groundstrokes which he can use in so many different ways. He also has a very underrated serve that has helped him out a lot this year. He has a tricky one coming up against Alex de Minaur to kick off his campaign, but he still is the clear favorite in terms of form, even if he’s only one ranking spot ahead. I expect him to be able to out-consist de Minaur in almost every aspect, from simple rallies from the back of the court, to serving and returning. While de Minaur may pose some challenges, he just hasn’t shown enough consistency to do much to Harris as the two clash for a place in the Round of 32 at the 2021 Paris Masters.

Alex de Minaur has slowly been playing better again, being able to take a couple sets off players like Tsitsipas and Zverev, but still, he isn’t playing anywhere near the level that he would like to be playing at. In order to take out Lloyd Harris, who is one of the most improved players of the season and who is very playing at a very consistent and high level at the moment. He will have to play a very aggressive game, which I think he should be focusing on whenever he’s playing in general, but against Harris especially, he shouldn’t try to elongate the rallies, as Harris will likely be able to quickly turn it in his favor and start being the aggressor in the rallies as they fight for a spot in the next round at the 2021 Paris Masters.

Lloyd Harris and Alex de Minaur have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Their two meetings came in 2019 and 2021, with Harris taking the first one surprisingly, considering he was hardly known at that time, and de Minaur was already a rising star. Their meeting in 2021 came on the clay, where Harris has not had the best results, and where he was also injured at the time. I just don’t think that de Minaur has the capacity to be able to turn many rallies in his favor at the moment, as Harris is playing great tennis and de Minaur has been struggling to show results all season. Let’s see if Harris can continue his good run of form to move on to the Round of 32 at the 2021 Paris Masters.
