A very surprising but exciting match is expected here in the Second Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as the unseeded pair of Frances Tiafoe and Vasek Pospisil lock horns for a spot in the Third Round. Both men were dominant in their opening round matches and this is set to be a very interesting match between two players that are close in the rankings. Who will get the win here and advance to the Third Round here at the All-England Club?
Frances Tiafoe is currently ranked #56 on the ATP Tour, and has a career high of #29. The American burst onto the scene as a very talented teenager a few years ago, and after reaching the Quarter-Finals at the Australian Open, big things were expected of him. However, his career has stagnated a bit over the past few years, and he has not reached the heights that many thought he would. Despite some inconsistent preparation for this event he stunned the tennis world by producing one of the biggest shocks in recent memory when he destroyed third seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets. Tiafoe controlled the match from the baseline and was in complete control, which spells trouble for his Second Round opponent Vasek Pospisil.
Vasek Pospisil is unseeded here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and is currently ranked #65 on the ATP Tour. Like his next opponent Frances Tiafoe, the Canadian is a former top 30 player that has seen his ranking slowly slide over the past few years. Pospisil has been having a quiet season so far in 2021, and had a mixed preparation for this event by losing in the First Round in Halle before a Quarter-Final appearance at Eastbourne. He was dominant in his First Round win over Roberto Carballes Baena, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in a match where he was rarely tested. Frances Tiafoe will be a much more difficult opponent for the Canadian, and is currently riding high after his huge win over Stefanos Tsitsipas. Can Pospisil roll back the clock and get the win here, advancing to the Third Round here at Wimbledon?
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and it is setting up to be a very close encounter. Both men have a game that is well suited for grass, and their big serves and powerful groundstrokes are sure to make this an intense match. All things considered, I am going to back the American Frances Tiafoe to get the win here. He was very impressive in his win over Tsitspas, and when he is confident he has proven that he is an extremely tough player to beat. Tiafoe has that extra gear that Vasek Pospisil hasn’t displayed in a while, and I think that he will win here in four or five sets, advancing to the Third Round here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
