TennisSection previews the 2021 Antwerp Open as Jannik Sinner takes on Lorenzo Musetti in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, October 20th, 2021.
A battle of the Italians is here for all of us to watch with popcorn in the Round of 16 of the 2021 Antwerp Open. Who will make it to the Quarter-Finals? Will it be the younger and lower ranked, Lorenzo Musetti, to get some momentum going and get his 2021 season back on track? Will it be Jannik Sinner to get himself further into the tournament as he aims to continue gaining more points and give himself a chance to make the ATP Finals?
Lorenzo Musetti beat another fellow Italian in the opening round, Gianluca Mager, and he has gotten a good result under his belt after a fair few months of sub-par matches. Lorenzo was great for the first half of the year, but ever since he lost from being 2-0 sets up against Novak Djokovic at the French Open, he has lacked the confidence in my opinion. Lorenzo knows that he can compete in these indoor hard court conditions and he will want to get a huge win under his belt for his confidence as he meets his fellow Italian, Jannik Sinner at the Antwerp Open.
Jannik Sinner has been finding his form again in his last few tournaments, making it to the later stages and getting himself back up the rankings to be able to challenge for the last few ATP Finals spots. Jannik Sinner is a great player in all conditions, as he is able to serve huge, but also play long and draining rallies if needed. Jannik will come into the 2021 Antwerp Open knowing that he is the favourite for the title based on ranking, but he cannot let this allow him to take things easy because the draw here at the Antwerp Open is very tough, especially as he now meets Lorenzo Musetti.
Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti have never met before, with this being the first ever encounter between the two young Italians. I am sure we are going to see many encounters between these two youngsters throughout their careers, but when comparing them at this moment in time, it is comparing night and day. Jannik Sinner is so much better than Lorenzo as he has won 20 more matches and lost nearly the same amount of matches this year, winning 3 titles along the way. Lorenzo played great in the first half of the year, but he has not been as good since then. Jannik has been consistent all year and he will show us that he is the better Italian between these two as he makes his way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Antwerp Open.
