TennisSection previews the 2021 Laver Cup as Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Nick Kyrgios on Day 2 on Saturday, September 25th, 2021.
We have probably one of the most entertaining matchups here already on Day 2 of the 2021 Laver Cup as the World No.3, Stefanos Tsitsipas, takes on the always entertaining and tough Nick Kyrgios. Who will get the vital two points for their team? Will it be Team Europe or Team World?
Nick Kyrgios will be looking to get Team World back on even terms right from the start here at the 2021 Laver Cup with Day 1 finishing with Team Europe gaining a 3-1 lead. Now on Day 2, the wins are worth 2 points, so if Nick Kyrgios can get the win, he can give Team World some momentum. Nick is so hard to beat in these formats because he just raises his level so much. Nick is one of the most naturally talented players out there and he can beat anyone and everyone on his day. However, he is now meeting the tough and high ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas here so he will have to ensure he gets a lot of help from the crowd and his team to give him that momentum.
Stefanos Tsitsipas will be looking to get yet another win for Team Europe here at the 2021 Laver Cup and extend their lead even more. Tsitsipas is a very good plater and he has shown us all year that he is a star. However, he did not have a great US Open where he was part of a lot of controversy. Coming into the 2021 Laver Cup, Tsitsipas will want to get a win under his belt to get his rhythm going again, but he knows that he probably has one of the biggest challenges in Nick Kyrgios although he is much higher ranked than the Aussie.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios have met 2 times before, with Nick Kyrgios leading the head to head 2-0. They have always played tight 3 set matches which have been incredibly entertaining. Stefanos Tsitsipas is a great player and he is much higher ranked than Nick, especially since when they last met. However, I think in these tournaments like the 2021 Laver Cup, those who succeed are the ones who have more passion and motivation. Nick is part of the Laver Cup since its start and he says its his favourite tournament. Tsitsipas will also be motivated, but Nick will be willing to give more and put it all on the line. With his huge serve, and ability to trick opponents with ease, expect an entertaining victory for the Aussie.
