TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Belinda Bencic takes on Emma Raducanu in the Quarter-Finals on Wednesday, September 8th, 2021.
Will Belinda Bencic go through? Will Emma Raducanu pull off the upset? This match will be an interesting one, where we have the olympic gold medalist who is in great form taking on the youngster who has yet to drop a set. Who will move on to the semifinals at the 2021 US Open?
Belinda Bencic has been playing some brilliant tennis, convincingly knocking down Swiatek in the fourth round to progress even further and back up her recent hard court success. Tokyo this year was playing incredibly fast, and the USO courts are also quite quick this year, which definitely helps Bencic as that really suits her game. She’s been playing a very versatile style, not only being able to keep the error count low and win long rallies, but also being able to hit a few hard balls and rip winners from the back of the court. All of this will be very helpful as she takes on Emma Raducanu, who has not dropped a set en route to the quarterfinals. However, her opponents were not the strongest, and I feel like Raducanu won’t be prepared for all of Bencic’s weapons and will lose a tight match to Bencic allowing her to progress to the semifinals at the 2021 US Open.
Emma Raducanu has been playing great tennis, being only 18 years old, she is into the quarterfinals in her US Open main draw debut, not dropping a set. While this does all sound very incredible, and it is, her opponents were not the strongest, allowing Raducanu to set up this meeting with Belinda Bencic. I have the feeling though, that she is in for a rude awakening, having to take on a top player who is in great form, I do think her brilliant run will end here, however, just simply due to all of the momentum she has created and all the confidence she must be feeling, I do think she can definitely take a set and force the match to go the distance, I just think Bencic will edge her out for sure and claim her spot in the 2021 US Open semifinals.
Belinda Bencic and Emma Raducanu have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s a pretty interesting match-up, with both players having versatile games, and I only expect Raducanu to improve from the world class level she’s already playing at. We could definitely be in for a thriller, although the result still remains clear in my mind, with Bencic having many weapons, more experience, and the great run she’s been having on hard courts as of late, let’s see if Raducanu can push the dominant Bencic as we’re in for a treat to see who can progress to the last four at the 2021 US Open.
