TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Alexander Bublik takes on Jack Sock in the Round of 64 on Thursday, September 2nd, 2021.
Will Jack Sock come out and get a huge win under his belt as he aims to give the American crowd what they want to see? Will Alexander Bublik put on another entertaining show as he is one of the most talented players out there? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Round of 32 of the 2021 US Open. Who will it be?
Jack Sock put on a great performance in his first match, getting a good win for his confidence under his belt by beating the always tough Yoshihito Nishioka in 4 sets 6-7/6-2/6-4/6-2. Jack did not lose his composure or determination after going down a set and he will know that this is a great show of his game and his ability. Jack will come out now in the Round of 64 knowing that the American crowd will definitely be coming to watch and cheering him all the way. However, he is going to meet a very tough opponent in Alexander Bublik so he will have to raise his level even more here at the 2021 US Open.
Alexander Bublik also came through a 4-set win against Yannick Hanfmann in the first round, beating the German 6-0/4-6/6-2/6-1. Once Bublik won the first set easily he took his foot off the gas thinking the match would be easy, but Hanfmann thought back. Once Hanfmann got the second set under his belt, Bublik woke up again and decided not to let his guard down at any time to ensure he got this win under his belt easily. Bublik is great in these conditions because he has huge flat assets, such as his serve and flat forehand. These shots go through the court at amazing speeds and he will want these to be firing here at the 2021 US Open as he now meets Jack Sock.
Alexander Bublik and Jack Sock have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. If this was a few years ago, I would have chosen Sock to win this match because at his best he was an amazing player who could win big titles, and at once was one of the 8 best players in the world. However, since he made the 2017 ATP Finals it has been a slippery slope for the American. Jack always plays better in the US, and that is why he got through his opening match. However, I think that Bublik is younger, fitter, and has a better natural game, so the match is already swinging his side. Adding to this, we know this will most likely be a long match, and I am unsure if Jack has the stamina to get himself through a long 5-setter potentially. I expect a tight one, with Alexander Bublik getting himself in the Round of 32 of the 2021 US Open.
