TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Pablo Carreno Busta takes on Maxime Cressy in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021.
Will Maxime Cressy get the biggest win of his career under his belt as he aims to shock us all so early on here at the 2021 US Open? Will Pablo Carreno Busta get some strong momentum going as he aims to go as far as he did last year here at the 2021 US Open? This will be an interesting encounter to see whether Maxime can cause a huge upset and get himself into the Round of 64, or whether Pablo will cruise and show us why he is a top 10 player?
Maxime Cressy had to fight his way through the qualification stages of the 2021 US Open, winning all 3 of his matches in very tight fashion. Cressy is not a very known player, mainly focusing his efforts in the Challenger Tour where he can actually compete sometimes. However, even at that level he struggles to beat very low ranked opponents. Maxime would have hoped for a better draw as he knows he is going to have to find some extra level of play if he is to get the biggest win of his career now that he meets Pablo Carreno Busta here at the 2021 US Open.
Pablo Carreno Busta has been in great form recently, winning Bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and then reaching the Quarter-Finals at both the Cincinnati Open and Winston-Salem Open in the last 2 weeks. Pablo is a great player in all conditions, being able to adapt his game to ensure he is ready to whether he needs to play power hitting tennis and trying to win points quickly, or whether he needs to stay in long rallies and wait for his opponent to make a mistake. Pablo will know he can go far here at the 2021 US Open, and he will want to get a solid win over Maxime Cressy from the start to get that momentum going.
Pablo Carreno Busta and Maxime Cressy have never met before, with this being their first ever career meeting. Unfortunately for the American ranked 151st in the world, Pablo is at the level of a top 10 player even though he is 12th in the world currently, and he will come out here ready to dominate. Pablo is so consistent in all aspects of his game and he is so underrated. I expect for the Spaniard to come out here ready to cruise into the Round of 64 of the 2021 US Open and show us why he is one of the best in the world in these conditions over the last 2 months. Maxime struggles in Challenger Tour tournaments, so I have no doubt he will struggle against a player with the stamina and power of Pablo.
