TennisSection previews the 2021 US Open as Alexander Zverev takes on Sam Querrey in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021.
Will Sam Querrey get one of the biggest wins of his career in a very long time as he aims to knock out one of the most in form players at the moment in Alexander Zverev? Will Alexander Zverev continue to shine in these hard court conditions? Both players love playing in these conditions, but only one will make their way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 US Open. Who will it be?
Sam Querrey has not been in great form recently, not being able to get a single win under his belt in the North American hard court season, going 0-4 in all matches. Sam Querrey, when at his best is definitely someone who can ruffle the feathers of anyone with his huge serve and forehand, however, he has not shown this in a long time. Sam Querrey played very well in the grass court conditions in June and July, but he will need to give it his absolute best here at the 2021 US Open and hope for a miracle if he is to cause the huge upset against the very in form Alexander Zverev.
Alexander Zverev has been in superb form recently, winning the Gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and then coming back to the Cincinnati Open and winning the tournament with relative ease. Alexander is at the top of his game and he is definitely one of the favourites for the title here at the 2021 US Open. However, serious allegations have come out recently against the German in his personal life, and he will have to ensure his mental game is fully focused on the court so he does not lose any of this strong momentum as he meets Sam Querrey here at the 2021 US Open.
Alexander Zverev and Sam Querrey have met 2 times before, with Alexander Zverev leading the head to head 2-0. Sam has never won a set against Zverev, and they have not met since 2019. Now in 2021, Zverev is just on another level, finally finding amazing form on his serve and he will know that with his recent success he should really be competing for the title here at the 2021 US Open, especially after he had a few moments where he was so close to winning it last year in the Final against Dominic Thiem. I expect for an absolute domination on the serve from Zverev, and when the ball is returned, Zverev has good enough groundstrokes to dictate play and get himself into the Round of 64 with ease.
