TennisSection previews the 2021 Cincinnati Open as Alexander Zverev (3) meets Lloyd Harris in the Second Round on Wednesday August 18th, 2021.
An exciting match is expected here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open as third seeded German Alexander Zverev takes on unseeded Lloyd Harris of South Africa in the Second Round. Both men having been having solid seasons so far, and this match is sure to be an entertaining one for the fans. Can the big-serving Harris cause the major upset here? Or will the world number five get the win and move on as expected?
Alexander Zverev is the third seed here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open and is ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings. The tall German has been having yet another solid season and has firmly established himself among the world’s best. With Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal withdrawing, he is one of the main contenders for the title here and will be aiming to get out to a good start this week. While he is yet to win a match here in Cincinnati throughout his career, he is in great form at the moment and is coming off a successful Olympic campaign where he claimed the gold medal. His game is well suited to these courts in Cincinnati and he is the favorite here against Lloyd Harris, but knows that the South African is a very dangerous opponent on this surface.
Lloyd Harris is unseeded here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open and is currently ranked #46 in the world. The big South African has been outstanding so far this season, and has quite a few top 10 wins on hard courts. He started strongly here in Cincinnati with a dominant straight-sets win over Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3, 6-4. He dominated that match with his serve, and has really improved his baseline game. If he is able to keep his focus throughout and serve well, he could very well prove to be a very dangerous opponent for the third seeded Alexander Zverev. Harris has really matured as a player over the past few seasons and is not someone to overlook here.
This will be the second time the two player are facing each other on the ATP Tour, with Alexander Zverev leading the head to head 1-0.The German claimed a hard fought three set win last year in Cologne, and enters this match as the big favorite after his exploits in Tokyo. However, his dismal record here in Cincinnati should be considered, with the German losing all six of his matches here throughout his career. Despite this, I expect the German to be able to pull through here, but it won’t be easy. Lloyd Harris has been playing very well this year, and has one of the best serves on Tour. The German may start slowly as he is prone to doing, but I expect him to work his way into the match before pulling away and claiming the tough win advancing to the Round of 16 here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open.
