Barcelona Open 2021: Andrey Rublev vs. Jannik Sinner Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Barcelona Open as Andrey Rublev (3) meets Jannik Sinner (11) in the Quarter-finals on Friday, April 23nd 2021.

Will Jannik Sinner make it far into another tournament as he looks to continue his rise to the top of the ATP Tour as the age of 19? Will Andrey Rublev continue to dominate and perform at such a high level as he looks to set up a Semi-final match here at the 2021 Barcelona Open? Both players have been in very solid form here in Barcelona, but only one will make their way to the Semi-finals. Who will it be?

What a match by the young Italian, Jannik Sinner, in the Third Round. Jannik Sinner was able to dominate the match in some key moments, beating the very experienced Roberto Bautista Agut for a hattrick of victories against him in straight sets 7-6(9)/6-2. Jannik just shows great composure, which is unseen from such a young player consistently, especially against some of the world best players on this surface. Jannik Sinner will want to build on that match and get a Top 10 win under his belt here in the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Barcelona Open by beating the in form Andrey Rublev.

Andrey Rublev came through a very tight 3-set match against the clay-court specialist, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, in the Third Round, winning 6-4/(4)6-7/6-4. Andrey has not been as good as he was all of last week at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters, but these tight matches are very good for him to get under his belt so that he knows how to act and manage his game when more important tight matches come in front of him. Andrey Rublev will know he has a very good shot of making the Final here if he wins this Quarter-final against Jannik Sinner, and I am sure he will aim to give it his best shot.

Andrey Rublev and Jannik Sinner have only ever met once before, with Rublev having won that match. Although Rublev won, it was not really a victory as Sinner retired 3 games into the match at the 2020 Vienna Open. In this match, it will definitely be entertaining, but I expect Andrey Rublev to provide too much variation and shot power for Jannik Sinner to keep up with. Jannik Sinner is young and will not put too much pressure on himself to win this, and will see a loss as a lesson. Rublev, on the other hand, knows how to get big wins under his belt, and he will do the same here at the 2021 Barcelona Open.
