TennisSection previews the 2021 Toronto Open as Roberto Bautista Agut takes on Reilly Opelka in the Quarter-Finals on Friday, August 13th, 2021.
Will Reilly Opelka be able to serve his way through another match as he has no chance on the return game here as he meets Roberto Bautista Agut? Will Roberto Bautista Agut put on another incredible performance here at the 2021 Toronto Open as he gets back to his best? Both players can win this match if they are on top of their game, but only one will make their way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Toronto Open. Who will it be?
Reilly Opelka had to fight back from a set down against the in form Lloyd Harris, beating the South African in 3 sets 4-6/7-6/7-6. Reilly started the match not focusing much on his serve, focusing more on rallying. However, Harris was up for the challenge, and he got the first set. Opelka then changed up his plan back to his basic one, serve until we reach a tiebreak, and then hit some incredible winner returns. Reilly Opelka will be happy he has gotten this far here at the 2021 Toronto Open, but he now meets his toughest challenge yet in Roberto Bautista Agut.
Roberto Bautista Agut put on an incredible performance in the Round of 16, beating the always tough Diego Schwartzman in 3 sets 6-3/3-6/7-5. Roberto started off the match very strongly and it looked as if he would cruise away with the win. However, the amazing returner which is Diego Schwartzman was able to fight back to win the second set in style. The third set was amazing, Diego seemed on top of the set, and he even had a few match points on the return of serve, but Roberto consistently maintained his composure, and when the going got tough, he brought out his best game to win the match in the end. This is a huge win for his momentum, and he will want to return as well as he did there now that he meets the huge serving Reilly Opelka here at the 2021 Toronto Open.
Roberto Bautista Agut and Reilly Opelka have met 3 times before, with Roberto Bautista Agut leading the head to head 2-1. Roberto won their latest encounter earlier this year at the Doha Open, winning in 3 sets. All of their matches have been very entertaining and tight because Reilly is an amazing server and Roberto is one of the best returners in the world. If Reilly dominated against Lloyd Harris and showed strength on his return game, I would be backing him more. However, he did not, therefore I think Roberto will dominate during the rallies and he will wear the big swinging American down as he makes his way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Toronto Open.
