TennisSection previews the 2022 Atlanta Open as Tommy Paul takes on Soonwoo Kwon in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022.
Will Tommy Paul get the win? Will Soonwoo Kwon pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have two unique styles coming to a clash. Who will triumph and move on to the quarterfinals at the 2022 Atlanta Open?
Tommy Paul got a really good win over Jack Sock, a guy who can always be quite the tough opponent but was seen off 1 and 1 by the higher ranked American. Soonwoo Kwon will most certainly be a greater challenge, but he didn’t have the easiest of matches and most certainly isn’t as skilled of a player as Paul on the hard. Let’s see what the American can do as he aims to make a showing and book his spot in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Atlanta Open.
Soonwoo Kwon needed 3 tight sets to take out Marcos Giron, and it’s only even more of an uphill battle as he faces Tommy Paul. Paul has had a lot of success lately, and I only expect things to get better and better for the 5th seed. While it may not be quite as easy as the first match, I don’t expect him to encounter too much pressure as Paul looks to move through here at the 2022 Atlanta Open.
Tommy Paul and Soonwoo Kwon have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Paul plays a very exciting game, playing quite aggressively and having a lot of potential to rip the forehand and backhand, but Kwon is similar in that he can play aggressively but also is able to neutralize players very well. It’ll be a fascinating dynamic but it seems only likely that Paul will take this contest in the end as he looks to get ahead and be the 1st quarterfinalist of the 2022 Atlanta Open.
