TennisSection previews the 2021 Washington Open as Jannik Sinner (5) takes on Sebastian Korda (12) in the Round of 16 on Thursday, August 5th, 2021.
Who will come out on top in this battle of the youngsters here at the 2021 Washington Open? Will it be the local and determined American, Sebastian Korda, to get a big win under his belt? Will it be the up and coming and definite star of the future, Jannik Sinner, to continue impressing and getting himself higher ranked on the ATP Tour? Both of them can win, but only one will make their way to the Quarter-Finals. Who will it be?
Sebastian Korda cruised through his match against Vasek Pospisil, beating the Canadian in straight sets 7-5/6-4. The match was tight at moments because Vasek is a power hitter, so Sebastian was trying to get used to his power. Once he found his rhythm, the young American was able to use that power to redirect balls and move Vasek around the court a lot. This allowed Sebastian Korda to get on top of the rallies and eventually get the win. Now, he will aim to improve on that match as he meets a much tougher opponent in Jannik Sinner who will give him a very tough time here at the 2021 Washington Open.
Jannik Sinner dominated his match against the in form Emil Ruusuvuori, beating his fellow youngster in straight sets 6-2/6-4. Jannik Sinner has not skipped a beat in his form coming into the 2021 Washington Open, using all of the momentum he gained by winning the doubles title in Atlanta this week to get himself into the Round of 16. Jannik knows he can go very far here in Washington because he has a great game for a hard court, with a. big serve and a powerful game. However, he needs to be on top of his game as he now meets the in form Sebastian Korda.
Jannik Sinner and Sebastian Korda have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. They are both young, with them being 19 and 21 respectively, however, Jannik Sinner has accomplished so much more than Sebastian at a younger age. Sebastian is definitely a solid player and he will have a great career, but I expect this to be at a top 20 level, whilst Jannik Sinner has the potential of a top 5 player in the future, if not a future No.1 in the world. I expect a tight match between both of them because they are both in form and determined to go far here at the 2021 Washington Open, but Jannik showed more form in the previous match and I think he has the edge here as he aims to make the Quarter-Finals.
