Filip Krajinovic beat the very experienced German, Philipp Kohlschreiber, in the Second Round in 3 tight sets 7-5/4-6/6-3. Filip Krajinovic is a very tough player to beat on his day, and he has beaten some big names in the past, such as Andrey Rublev. However, in 2021, we have not seen much from him, with him losing more matches than he has won this year. Filip will know that he can definitely find his form in the second half of the year if he finds consistency in his tennis level. However, he will have a very tough road ahead here at the 2021 Hamburg Open as he meets the No.1 seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Stefanos Tsitsipas showed us some great tennis in his first match on clay since the French Open Final early last month, beating the German, Dominik Koepfer, in straight sets, 7-6/6-3. Stefanos Tsitsipas is just at his best on clay on my opinion, especially as he has been able to find his form all year on this surface, reaching 3 Finals, and winning his biggest title at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Tsitsipas will know that he still needs to wear off some rust, especially on his backhand side on this surface, but he will definitely have a good chance to practice that against Filip Kohlschreiber.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Filip Krajinovic have met 2 times before, with Stefanos Tsitsipas leading the head to head 2-0. They have met on clay before, at the 2019 French Open, with Tsitsipas winning in 4 tight sets. Although that match was tight, since 2019 Tsitsipas has improved drastically. Tsitsipas has shown us that he is the 3rd best clay player at the moment, behind Nadal and Djokovic, and he will definitely come out here in this Quarter-Final of the 2021 Hamburg Open ready to give it his all and get one step closer to the title.
