TennisSection previews the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Naomi Osaka takes on Viktorija Golubic in the Round of 32 on Monday, July 26th, 2021.
Will Viktorija Golubic be able to hurt the hearts of all the Japanese fans watching at home as she aims to get her best career win? Will Naomi Osaka be able to cruise again as she aims to get one step closer to her dream of winning Olympic Gold in her home country? This will either be another good step towards Osaka’s goal or it will be heartbreak. Who will make their way to the Round of 16 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics?
Viktorija Golubic cruised through her first round match, beating the Colombian, Maria Osoro Serrano, in straight sets 6-4/6-1. This was not really the toughest opponent Golubic could have met because Serrano does not really focus on ATP Tour tournaments, mainly focusing on ITF tournaments. Golubic will still be happy with her performance, but she will know that the toughest challenge awaits her as she now meets the very in form and determined Naomi Osaka who will give it her all in her home country.
Naomi Osaka also cruised through her first round match against Saisai Zheng, beating her in straight sets 6-1/6-4. Naomi Osaka does not seem to have lost any of her form or determination since not having played in the last 2 months. Naomi said that her being here representing her country in her home Olympics is her greatest achievement so far and she will be wanting to win Gold here at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as she knows that it would be incredible for both her and her country. However, she also needs to ensure she continues improving her game in these early rounds against the likes of Viktorija Golubic as she does not want to go into the business end of the Olympics not at her best.
Naomi Osaka and Viktorija Golubic have never met before, with this being their first ever career meeting. Viktorija Golubic has nothing to lose coming into this match so she might come out swinging freely, but even at her best she will stand no chance in my opinion against Naomi. Naomi seems locked in and ready to fight until the end here as she wants to make history. The sets might be tight at moments as Naomi still needs to find her rhythm at moments, but she should still win this match in straight sets and make her way to the Round of 16 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
