Radu Albot put on a very strong comeback performance in the First Round, getting revenge for his loss last week against Holger Rune by beating him in 3 sets 1-6/6-3/6-2. Radu Albot, when at his best, is a very tough player to come up against because he returns with a lot of interest and does not give up on any point, always keeping his opponents on their toes. Radu Albot will know that he can win this match and make his way to the Quarter-Finals here in Umag, but he will also need to know that he needs to make a quick start against Filip Krajinovic who is on top of his game on clay over the last week.
Filip Krajinovic had a great week last week at the Hamburg Open, reaching his 4th career Final. Krajinovic beat the likes of Altmaier, Kohlschreiber, Tsitsipas, Djere, and he lost to Pablo Carreno Busta in the Final 2-6/4-6. That is quite a stack of players in one week to meet, and Krajinovic will be proud of his game as he was able to beat them all until the last one. Filip will come out here at the Umag Open looking for redemption by using this form in a tournament where there not as big threats as there were in Hamburg. However, he will need to be ready from the start as he meets the always tough Radu Albot in the Second Round.
Filip Krajinovic and Radu Albot have met 4 times before, with the head to head tied at 2-2. Obviously, Filip has been playing much better recently so he will feel like he should win. However, Radu Albot is a very good returner and he will know that he has nothing to lose here and everything to gain. This will give Albot an edge mentally and he will be free’d up in his shot making. Albot will get a set under his belt in my opinion here, but with the form that Krajinovic has been playing with over the last week, he will be able to squeeze himself into the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Umag Open.
