Will Karolina Pliskova finally get her maiden Grand Slam title under her belt after having been so close so many times with a Final at the US Open in 2016 and many Semi-Finals throughout the years? Will Ashleigh Barty round off a near-perfect tournament by getting her second Grand Slam title under? Both of these women have played great throughout the entire tournament, but only one will be crownded as the 2021 Wimbledon Championships Women’s Singles Champion. Who will it be?
Karolina Pliskova played some of the best tennis we have seen from her in a while, beating the favourite in that match, Aryna Sabalenka (2), in 3 sets, 5/7/6-4/6-4. The fact that Pliskova showed the composure to come back from a set down against Aryna, who was playing superbly herself, shows us how good she actually is and how much she has improved mentally. Karolina Pliskova will know that this is her time to shine as her big hitting game is perfect for these grass court conditions. However, Pliskova will need to ensure she maintains her composure now that he meets a strong returner in Ashleigh Barty.
Ashleigh Barty also put on a solid performance in the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, beating the former Champion here, Angelique Kerber in straight sets 6-3/7-6. Ashleigh Barty started off very well but once she won the first set, her form dipped slightly. This allowed Angelique to get into the second set by getting a break. However, Ashleigh was then able to find her game again and she made sure to break back and not let this match go to an unpredictable third set. Ashleigh will want to ensure she is ready to be perfect on return as she meets a big server and flat hitter in Karolina Pliskova in the Final.
Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova have met 7 times before, with Ashleigh Barty leading the head to head 5-2. They met earlier this year on grass in Stuttgart, where Ashleigh won in 3 sets 2-6/6-1/7-5. I think that Ashleigh will use that as her basis of how to play. However, I think that might be a mistake. Karolina Pliskova has changed her game slightly to ensure she finds more consistency on her serve. Ashleigh Barty is a good returner, but so was Aryna Sabalenka, and I would have predicted Aryna to beat Ashleigh, so I believe that if Karolina was able to beat Aryna at her absolute best, she will also be able to beat Ashleigh with her huge server and flat hitting game on grass. Karolina will win her maiden Grand Slam title here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
