Will Alja Tomljanovic be able to put on another solid performance here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and cause the biggest upset in the womens draw so far? Will Ashleigh Barty continue to dominate and show us her amazing grass court game? Both players will come out here and give it their all, but only one will make their way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Alja Tomljanovic came through a straight sets match against the local wildcard, Emma Raducanu, in the Round of 16, beating her 6-4/3-0 before Raducanu retired with an injury. Alja Tomljanovic will know she still has some parts to improve in her game, but the fact that she is showing us that she can make it this far in a big tournament is already much more than anyone expected from her. Alja will be very happy that she is so far, and that she has matches Matteo Berrettini (her boyfriend) in having reached the Quarter-Finals, but she will have to be at her absolute best and more if she is to now cause the biggest upset of the tournament and knock out the top seed, Ashleigh Barty.
Ashleigh Barty put on a very solid performance in the Round of 16, beating the extremely in form and recent French Open Champion, Barbora Krejcikova, in straight sets 7-5/6-3. This was really a statement win for Ashleigh Barty, showing that it does not matter how in form you are, she is always more in form than you even if the last month of matches are not backing that up. Ashleigh Barty will be wanting to get herself one step closer to her 2nd Grand Slam title and she will know she is even more of a favourite now that Krejcikova and Swiatek are out, but she will have to ensure she does not allow the likes of Alja Tomljanovic to cause the upset.
Ashleigh Barty and Alja Tomljanovic have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Alja Tomljanovic will be very confident in her game and she will know that she is not the favourite coming into this match, therefore she will either take this match in 2 ways. She will either see this as a free ticket to give it her all and swing freely, or she will be nervous as she will be too scared to get her best game out against a much better opponent. After having seen her matches here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, I think she will choose option 1. It will be a very tight match with both of them giving it their all, but at the end of the day, Ashleigh is used to playing these big matches and this experience will give her the edge to make her way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Wimblecon Championships.
