World number one Novak Djokovic continues his quest for a record-equaling 20th Grand Slam title here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. He has had an outstanding year so far and it seems like nothing will stand in his path to victory here. His next opponent is American Denis Kudla, who is tasked with the unenviable job of trying to stop the tennis legend. Can Kudla do the impossible and get the win here? Or will Djokovic romp to victory as expected, and advance to the Round of 16 here at Wimbledon?
Novak Djokovic is the world number one and is the top seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The Serbian star is on the path to win a “Golden Slam”, which no male player has ever done before. With five Wimbledon titles already to his name and the withdrawal of biggest rival Rafael Nadal it seems like only a miracle will stop him from winning. After shockingly dropping the first set to Jack Draper in the First Round, he has largely been unstoppable, winning the next six sets he played in dominant fashion. He cruised to victory over former Wimbledon Finalist Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 by controlling the match from the baseline, and enters his next match against Denis Kudla as the massive favorite.
Denis Kudla is a Qualifier here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, and is ranked #114 on the ATP Tour. The American has a lot of experience, but knows that he is up against it here. After impressing in the Qualifying Rounds, he surprisingly defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina who is one of the outstanding young players on tour, and was the 30th seed. Kudla then backed that win up by cruising past Italian veteran Andreas Seppi in straight sets, proving that his earlier win was no fluke. Despite his five victories in a row here at Wimbledon, he is the huge underdog here and it will take the best match of his life to make this remotely interesting.
This will be the third meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Djokovic leading the head to head 2-0. They have played on both grass (here at Wimbledon) and hard courts before, with Denis Kudla failing to come even close to winning a set. I see that trend continuing here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The Serbian has never lost to a Qualifier at a Grand Slam and that will not happen here with so much on the line. I expect him to dominate this match from beginning to end, winning it in straight sets. Novak Djokovic is a man on a mission, and will advance to the Round of 16 here at Wimbledon with ease.
