Wimbledon Championships 2021: Ugo Humbert vs. Nick Kyrgios Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Ugo Humbert meets Nick Kyrgios in the First Round on Tuesday June 29th, 2021.

A hugely exciting match is expected here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Frenchman Ugo Humbert will face Australian star Nick Kyrgios in the First Round. Any match involving the volatile but talented Aussie is must-see TV, but even more so now that he is facing the in-form Frenchman, fresh off his maiden grass-court title. Who will win this very entertaining match and advance to the Second Round?

Ugo Humbert is currently ranked a career high #25 in the ATP world rankings, and is the 21st seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The young French lefty has always been a talented player, but has been putting everything together with some strong performances this year. Humbert was listed as one of our “Dark Horses to watch” here at Wimbledon as he is in red-hot form at the moment, playing flawless tennis to win the 2021 Halle Open where he defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime, Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev en route to the title. While he is not yet considered a serious contender for these major titles, it is seemingly only a matter of time before that becomes a reality. While he enters this match against Nick Kyrgios as the favorite, he knows that he is in for a massive battle, like their marathon five setter at the Australian Open.

Aussie sensation Nick Kyrgios is ranked #61 in the world, a far cry from his career-high ranking of #13. He has largely been off the map during the COVID-19 pandemic, playing very few tournaments and seeing his ranking slide. While we don’t have much recent tennis history to gauge his form, we would be unwise to discount him as he is one of the most talented yet unpredictable players in modern tennis. It literally is an impossible task to guess what to expect from him, especially now that he has been off the radar. While he enters this match as the underdog against the in-form Ugo Humbert, it would be a shock to no-one if the Australian was to produce world-class tennis and get the win here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. His power game is well suited to these courts, so keep an eye on him.

This will be the third meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Ugo Humbert winning last year in Acapulco when Kyrgios retired, and then the Aussie getting revenge in a five set thriller at this year’s Australian Open, one of the matches of the tournament. It is extremely hard to predict any match involving Nick Kyrgios, as he is just as likely to beat the world number one as he is to lose to the #100. All things considered, we have to go with the Frenchman Ugo Humbert here. He has been on the tour consistently while the Aussie has not, and he is also in red-hot form after Halle, while his opponent played none of the warm up events. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Kyrgios win here, but the smart money definitely is on Ugo Humbert getting the win and advancing to the Second Round here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
