Will Hubert Hurkacz be able to recover fast enough and ride the high of getting his best career win under his belt? Will Roger Federer get one step closer to the Final as the bottom side of the draw is now less competitive, with Federer being the highest ranked player? Both players will know this is a big match and it will be a tight one, but only one will make their way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Hubert Hurkacz came through a tight 5-set encounter against Daniil Medvedev in the Round of 16, beating him 2-6/7-6/3-6/6-3/6-3. In the first set, Medvedev was cruising through the match showing us his amazing tennis, but after that Hubert started to get his best tennis out as well and we finally had a match on our hands. Medvedev had the momentum going into the second day halfway through the 4th set due to a rain delay on Monday, but Hubert changed that real quick once they stepped back onto court. Hubert Hurkacz was able to come back from 2-1 sets down and get himself to a 5th set, and he dominated that as well. This will give Hubert the confidence to believe in himself and that he belongs here, but he now meets the best grass court player of all time here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, Roger Federer.
Roger Federer came through an extremely entertaining match against the in form Italian, Lorenzo Sonego, beating him in straight sets sets, 7-5/6-4/6-2. It was a very tight first set, but once Federer got that under his belt, his confidence increased and he was able to show the young gun how grass court tennis is played as a frontrunner. Roger has improved throughout the tournament and he knows there are still some aspects of his game he needs to fix, but I am sure he will be practicing very hard and ensuring he prepares himself the best he can to come out here in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and get a massive win for his confidence against Hubert Hurkacz.
Roger Federer and Hubert Hurkacz have met 1 time before, with Roger Federer leading the head to head 1-0. They met in 2019 in Indian Wells where Roger won in straight sets 6-4/6-4. This is going to be a tight match and both of them will know that they can put on an incredible show for everyone. Hubert will want to show us that he has been great this year by getting such a big win under his belt, but Roger will want to win to show us that he still has it and is the King of Grass. Roger is a much better grass player than Hubert, so he will use all of his experience and study the Pole’s game to get the big win under his belt here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
