Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?
Alison Van Uytvanck won the ITF Great Britain 01A title a couple weeks ago, showing us some great tennis and preparing herself strongly for Wimbledon. Alison will have been hoping to go far here, but she will now be looking around knowing she has been placed in the tougher half of the draw and praying to the tennis gods to stop putting her against top seeded players, like Elina Svitolina, so early on, more likely than not preventing her from making a strong run. Will she be able to cause the upset and make a name for herself at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships?
Elina Svitolina is struggling a lot with form recently, going 1-2 in all of her matches on grass over the last few weeks. Elina needs to raise her level because at her ranking and level of experience, she needs to be performing better. Elina Svitolina is not yet a Grand Slam champion, and although this is shocking, it is because she does not bring out her best tennis in the biggest tournaments. Elina will be hoping that she can find her form here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, but she needs to get through a tough Alison Van Uytvanck in the Round of 128.
Elina Svitolina and Alison Van Uytvanck have met 1 time before, with Elina Svitolina leading the head to head 1-0. They met in 2015 so their meeting was not really relevant to this match. It was a tight one however. Because of Alison’s strong game on grass as of recently, and Elina’s poor performances, I see this being a tight match as well. I still cannot go against Elina so early on in the tournament, but if I see that she is struggling a lot but still comes through, I won’t be very supportive of her in future matches.
