TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Andy Murray (WC) meets Nikoloz Basilashvili (24) in the Round of 128 on Monday, June 28th 2021.
Will Nikoloz Basilashvili spoil the party for the British crowd looking forward to their golden boy coming back? Will Andy Murray come out here and put on a great performance to make us remember the good old days of him and Wimbledon? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Round of 64. Who will it be?
Nikoloz Basilashvili put on solid performances on grass this season, reaching the Semi-finals of the Halle Open a couple weeks ago and taking a set of Andrey Rublev. Nikoloz Basilashvili is such an up and down player, sometimes playing some amazing tennis and beating big names, and other times losing to players no one has ever heard of. Nikoloz will want to use the momentum and confidence gained in his last tournament to get his Wimbledon campaign off strongly. However, he meets the heavy crowd favourite and experienced player in Andy Murray.
Andy Murray made his return to the ATP Tour at the Queen’s Open a couple weeks ago, reaching the Round of 16 where he lost to Matteo Berrettini. Although he lost, he did show some solid tennis and improvements. Andy Murray loves playing at Wimbledon and we are all so excited to see him back at the Wimbledon Championships. Andy is of course not at his best, and he will struggle right from the start as he meets a tough opponent in Nikoloz Basilashvili, but I am sure that he will have a lot of adrenaline pumping so he will be able to give us some moments of magic on court.
Andy Murray and Nikoloz Basilashvili have never met before, with this being their first encounter. Although Nikoloz has been in better form recently and he has won 2 titles already this season, when it comes to grass court, Wimbledon, and Andy Murray, I don’t see him winning. The crowd will be so one-sided in this match and they will cheer Andy on no matter what. Andy at this moment in his career needs that more than ever, and he will use that momentum to build his confidence and get this match under his belt. It will be tight as Murray is not at his best, but he will make his way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
