A huge battle is expected here at the 2021 Halle Open as fifth seeded Roger Federer faces Felix Auger-Aliassime for a spot in the Quarter-Finals. Both men won their opening match here in straight sets and will be seeking to go one step further in search of the title here in Halle. Who will win and advance to the Quarter-Finals?
Roger Federer is ranked #8 on the ATP Tour and is the #8 seed at the 2021 Halle Open. A 10 time champion here in Halle, The Swiss legend is desperately seeking a Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and is one of the favorites for the title here. Recently returning to the Tour, Federer impressively reached the Round of 16 at the French Open before withdrawing to conserve his energy ahead of the grass court season. He won his First Round match against Ilya Ivashka relatively comfortably, and was controlling the points as he always does on this surface. Due to his vast experience and success on grass he should be considered the favorite here against Felix Auger-Aliassime, but should be wary of the young Canadian’s good recent form.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked #20th on the ATP Tour and at the tender age of 20 already has an outstanding tennis resume. The young Canadian has long been considered a future superstar of the game, and after reaching 8 ATP Finals he is beginning to live up to those lofty expectations. After a very disappointing clay court season he has found form on grass, reaching the Final last week in Stuttgart, where he lost to Marin Cilic. The youngster will be very disappointed to have lost yet another Final, and will be hoping to turn his fortunes around here at the 2021 Halle Open. While he is in fantastic form he is up against possibly the greatest grass court player in history in Roger Federer and will have to be at his best here to get the win.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour and is sure to be a blockbuster. Both men seem in great form at the moment and this will be a very close and exciting match. While Felix Auger-Aliassime is in great form and recently reached the Final in Stuttgart, it is hard to look past the great Roger Federer here. The Swiss megastar has so much experience on this surface and will use every ounce of that to get past the youngster. I expect a close battle and Federer will likely struggle against FAA’s power, but he will come through here, advancing to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Halle Open.
