Barbora has now reached her career high of 33rd in the world, and she will not want to stop here. However, the Czech will have to raise her level quite a bit if she is to keep up with the very in form Elina Svitolina here at Roland Garros and cause the upset in the Round of 32. Can she do it?
Elina Svitolina has not lost a set this week here at the 2021 French Open, cruising through her Round of 64 match as well against Ann Li in straight sets 6-0/6-4. Elina Svitolina is definitely finding her rhythm and range here, which is great to see as she is definitely a great player but she just never has reached the highest level by winning a Grand Slam. Elina will want to keep building on her game and give herself a strong chance to get herself in the later stages of Roland Garros with the likes of Ashleigh Barty not being in the tournament anymore. However, she will need to ensure she prevents the upset by Barbora Krejcikova in the Round of 32.
Elina Svitolina and Barbora Krejcikova have never met before, with this being their first encounter. They have had very different careers, with Elina’s main success having come on the singles tour, and Barbora’s success having come on the doubles tour. Both players have been great all week at the 2021 French Open, but when looking who has been more dominating, Elina Svitolina has had the upper hand. I still expect it to be a tight match as they have been in strong form, but at the end of the day, Elina Svitolina will make her way to the Round of 16 here at the French Open.
