TennisSection previews the 2021 Miami Open as Roberto Bautista Agut (7) meets Jannik Sinner (21) in the Semi-finals on Friday, April 2nd 2021.
Will Jannik Sinner be able to make even more tennis history by becoming the youngest ATP 1000 Finalist in over a decade? Will Roberto Bautista Agut continue his amazing run of form after knocking out the title favourite and No.1 seed Daniil Medvedev? Both players have been in superb form all week, but only one will be able to make it to the Final. Who will it be?
Jannik Sinner cruised through his Quarter-final match on Wednesday, beating the very in form and unorthodox, Alexander Bublik in 2 sets 7-6(5)/6-4. Sinner is exploding on the ATP Tour this year, already winning a title in February, and now in the Last 4 of such a big event like Miami. Jannik, although only 19-years-old, plays like someone who has the experience of a big title winner, playing aggressive, serving well, and moving around the court with great speed. Sinner is definitely going to become a Top 10 player in the next 2 years, and I am very interested to see whether he can continue shocking the entire tennis world by potentially causing the upset here against Roberto Bautista Agut on Friday. If he is to do so, he will have to ensure he is at the top of his game, but if there is someone to do it, it will be Jannik Sinner.
Roberto Bautista Agut was out of this world in his Quarter-final encounter against the World No.2, and No.1 seed here in Miami, Daniil Medvedev. Bautista Agut won in straight sets 6-4/6-2 and did not give Medvedev any chance to even get ahead in the match. Roberto has now won 3/3 matches against Medvedev, and has knocked out the No.1 seed for a title for 2 weeks in a row. Roberto is able to hang in there with the best on a consistent basis and he just continues to rally until his opponents can no longer hand with him physically and mentally. Roberto is just outside of the Top 10 in the world, but he will swiftly make his way back into the Top 10 this year if he continues to play at this high level. Roberto Bautista Agut knows he will have to ensure he is at his absolute best as he meets a player who he has struggled in Jannik Sinner. How will the Spaniard fare?
Roberto Bautista Agut and Jannik Sinner have met once before, with Jannik Sinner leading the head to head 1-0. They met only a couple of weeks ago in the Fourth Round of the Dubai Open where Sinner won in 3 tight sets 6-4/3-6/7-5. Both players gave it their best there, but Sinner was able to maintain his composure better towards the end of the match. Although Sinner won that one, I see Roberto Bautista Agut coming out on top here in the Semi-finals of the 2021 Miami Open as he has raised his level even further. Sinner still has a long way to go, and Roberto will make sure he gets his revenge.
