Parma Open 2021: Lorenzo Sonego vs. Sebastian Korda Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Parma Open as Lorenzo Sonego (1) meets Sebastian Korda in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021.

Will Lorenzo Sonego continue his amazing form that took him to the Semi-finals of the 2021 Rome Open a couple weeks ago? Will Sebastian Korda continue to improve his game as he looks to make a name for himself on the ATP Tour? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, however, only one will make their way to the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Parma Open. Who will it be?

Sebastian Korda beat the very experienced Italian legend, Andreas Seppi, in the Round of 32 in straight sets 6-3/6-4. Although Andreas Seppi has managed to remain a top 100 player for the last 15 years or more, he is nowhere near the level of Sebastian Korda. Korda was using his big serve and +1 play to get the points over quickly on his serve, and this gave him the freedom to give it his best shot when he was returning the ball in Andreas games. Now, Sebastian Korda meets a very in form Lorenzo Sonego and he will have to be at his best level here if he wants to win.

Lorenzo Sonego is coming off the best week of his career at the 2021 Rome Open, making his way to the Semi-finals by beating the likes of Monfils, Thiem, Rublev, and nearly beating Novak Djokovic in the Semi-final. Lorenzo Sonego was just destroying opponents left, right, and center, and it is clear that when he plays in Italy, the crowd allows Sonego to raise his level drastically. Here at the 2021 Parma Open, I am sure Lorenzo will be very determined to continue improving his game and get another title under his belt. However, he will have to beat the up and coming Sebastian Korda early on.

Lorenzo Sonego and Sebastian Korda have met 1 time before, with Lorenzo Sonego leading the head to head 1-0. They met at the 2021 Montpellier Open where Lorenzo won in straight sets 6-3/6-2. I expect for this to be a very interesting match as both players are very solid in clay court conditions. Sebastian will want to give it his best shot here and make an even bigger name for himself. However, as we are in Italy, I expect Lorenzo to come out firing as he did at the Rome Open and get the win under his belt to keep his title hopes alive.
