TennisSection previews the 2021 Estoril Open as Albert Ramos-Vinolas (7) meets Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (8) in the Semi-finals on Saturday, May 1st, 2021.
Who will come out on top in this extremely tight battle of the Spaniards? Will it be the experienced and veteran Albert Ramos-Vinolas, or the up and coming and determined Alejandro Davidovich Fokina? Both players can win this match if on top of their game, but only one will make their way to the Final. Who will it be?
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina cruised through his Quarter-final match against the No.3 seed, Ugo Humbert, beating the Frenchman in straight sets 6-4/6-4. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina loves to play on clay, and he is continuously improving as he is still young on the ATP Tour. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will be very happy with his side of the draw as the No.1 seed, Denis Shapovalov, was knocked out of the tournament earlier in the week. Now, however, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will have to ensure he is at his best as he meets an experienced fellow-Spaniard, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, in the Semi-finals of the 2021 Estoril Open.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas put on a very solid display in the Quarter-finals, beating Corentin Moutet in straight sets 6-4/6-3. Albert Ramos-Vinolas is always tough to beat on a clay court as he is able to return basically any ball and play very long and exhausting rallies to get on top of the match. Albert Ramos-Vinolas will be very confident in his tennis this week as he is yet to lose a set, and he will know that he has a strong chance at the title if he continues to play at this level. However, he will now meet a very young and energetic Spaniard in Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Semi-finals of the 2021 Estoril Open.
Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina have met 2 times before, with the head to head tied at 1-1. They met both times on clay in 2019 where they both came through tight matches. It is really hard to predict who will win this matchup as they have both been playing amazing tennis all week. But looking at their success this week makes me think that this match is not going to be won easily. I expect a long and draining match for both players, and one which will go to 3 sets.
