TennisSection previews the 2021 Barcelona Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas (2) meets Jannik Sinner (11) in the Semi-finals on Saturday, April 24th 2021.
Will Jannik Sinner continue to cause upsets in the tennis world as he continues to rise up the rankings and make a strong name for himself? Will Stefanos Tsitsipas make his second Final in a row in two weeks to aim to win his second title of the season as well? Both players have put on great performances all week here at the 2021 Barcelona Open, but only one will make their way to the Final. Who will it be?
Jannik Sinner put on a dominant display against Andrey Rublev in the Quarter-finals, beating the World No.7 in straight sets 6-2/7-6(6). Jannik Sinner came into that match feeling more fresh and energetic compared to Andrey Rublev, who had been playing non-stop tennis for the last week and a half, and he was able to use this to hurt the defences of the Russian. Jannik Sinner is just 19 years old, and he is showing everyone that age is just a number and he is very experienced and determined for his age. Jannik has made 2 Finals already this year on the ATP Tour and he will be looking to make a third by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Semi-finals of the 2021 Barcelona Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas was able to cruise through his Quarter-final encounter here at the 2021 Barcelona Open, beating the very in form Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets 6-3/6-3. The reason why Tsitsipas won that match was because when Tsitsipas started both sets off quite slowly, offering up break points, but failed to convert, he lost the momentum and then just started spiraling a bit. Stefanos Tsitsipas, on the other hand, was able to maintain his composure during his tough service moments, and when his time came to go ahead, he pounced. Stefanos Tsitsipas will now have to ensure he is at his absolute best now as he meets an opponent who has beaten him convincingly before in Jannik Sinner.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner have met 2 times before, with the head to head tied at 1-1. They met both times on the clay courts of Rome, with their most recent encounter coming last year with Jannik Sinner winning in 3 sets 6-1/(9)6-7/6-2. Although Stefanos Tsitsipas is now 8 matches unbeaten on clay, and has performed superbly at the 2021 Barcelona Open, Jannik Sinner has showed great talent and promise against some bigger named players. I expect this to be a tight match as both players have big serves and can rally like there is no tomorrow, but I expect Jannik Sinner to make his way to another Final in 2021.
