TennisSection previews the 2021 Barcelona Open as Roberto Bautista Agut (5) meets Jannik Sinner (11) in the Third Round on Thursday, April 22nd 2021.
Will Jannik Sinner continue to rise in the rankings on the ATP Tour as he looks to beat another big name player again? Will Roberto Bautista Agut get revenge for his tough loss to Jannik Sinner in the Semi-finals of the 2021 Miami Open a few weeks ago? Both players can win this match if they are on top of their game, but only one will make their way to the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Barcelona Open. Who will it be?
Jannik Sinner cruised through his Second Round match here at the 2021 Barcelona Open, beating Egor Gerasimov in straight sets in less than an hour 6-3/6-2. Jannik Sinner is now ranked in the Top 20 in the world, and I am very sure that with performances like he has been putting on in the last few weeks, he will be sure to rise into the Top 10 within the next year. Jannik Sinner is just such an exceptional talent, and he will be a future Grand Slam champion for sure. However, he is also very humble and knows he still needs to put in the hard work to get over the next opponent in Roberto Bautista Agut.
Roberto Bautista Agut also cruised through his Second Round match, beating his fellow Spaniard, Pablo Andujar, in straight sets 6-4/6-0. Roberto is just an incredible player at the age of 33, having some of the best stamina I have seen from anyone on the ATP Tour, really only comparable to the likes of the Big 3, Andy Murray and Dominic Thiem. Roberto Bautista Agut will know that he had a great performance in his first match here at the 2021 Barcelona Open, but he will have to be at his best here in the Third Round as he meets an opponent who he recently lost to in Jannik Sinner.
Roberto Bautista Agut and Jannik Sinner have met 2 times before, with Jannik Sinner leading the head to head 2-0. They met both times this year, and Sinner won both of them in 3 extremely tight sets. Although Sinner won the matches, Roberto Bautista Agut was the man in charge of those encounters and he just let his guard down slightly towards the end of each match’ final set. I think that Roberto will finally get his win against the young Italian, and he will do it right infront of his home crowd at the 2021 Barcelona Open. It will be another extremely tight match, but one which Roberto Bautista Agut will win.
