TennisSection previews the 2021 Sardegna Open as Nikoloz Basilashvili (4) meets Laslo Djere in the Semi-Finals on Saturday, April 10th 2021.
Will Laslo Djere be able to cause another upset here in Sardegna after coming through a very nice match against Lorenzo Musetti as he looks to make the Final? Will Nikoloz Basilashvili put on another solid performance, backing up his performance in the Quarter-finals against Jan-Lennard Struff? Both players have put on some strong performances here in Sardegna, and both of them can definitely win this match if playing their best. Who will make it to the Final of the 2021 Sardegna Open?
Laslo Djere came through a very tight but good match against Lorenzo Musetti, beating the up and coming and favourite Italian in that match to win in 3 sets 6-4/4-6/6-2. Djere showed that although Musetti was the more in form player in the last few months, Djere had a big edge over the youngster in terms of experience and ability to remain composed during the very right moments. Djere will want to back up this superb performance and he will be filled with confidence coming into this Semi-final encounter against Nikoloz Basilashvili. Djere will have to however be at his absolute best, and I am sure that he will be aiming to get his service up to speed as his return game on clay is already very solid.
Nikoloz Basilashvili put on a strong performance against Jan-Lennard Struff, beating the German in 3 sets, 7-5/4-6/6-3. It was a very tight match from start to finish, but in the end the great movement and ability to get his footwork right on clay paid dividends for Basilashvili, booking him a spot in the Semi-finals. Nikoloz Basilashvili will be feeling ever more confident now with these results, as it shows him that he is still at his best and can perform highly against some tough opponents in these ATP 250 tournaments. Nikoloz would have probably been expecting to meet Lorenzo Musetti here, but I am very sure he will know that although he is meeting Laslo Djere, he cannot take this match lightly at all, and he will have to give it his best.
Nikoloz Basilashvili and Laslo Djere have met 4 times before, with the head to head tied at 2-2. The last time they met was at the 2019 Rome Masters, where Nikoloz Basilashvili won 7-5/6-4. Although both players have been playing some great tennis here, and both deserve to be in the Final, I cannot discount the performances put on by Nikoloz Basilashvili in his last two matches. Basilashvili has shined here in Sardegna and he has fought back against anything thrown at him. Don’t get me wrong, it will be a tight match, but it will be won by Nikoloz Basilashvili as he makes his way to the 2021 Sardegna Open Final.
