This is an intriguing matchup between one of the best players in the world, and one of the top young talents on the ATP Tour. Alexander Zverev has been an established top 10 player for quite some time, and he faces Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland in what will certainly be an exciting match. The young Finnish player has proven himself to be a top prospect for the future and will be eager to give a good account of himself here at the 2021 Miami Open. Can he cause the stunning upset? Or will the third seeded German advance in his quest for a second consecutive title in 2021?
Alexander Zverev is currently ranked #7 in the ATP rankings and has had a mixed start to the 2021 season. A good showing at the Australian Open was followed by a First Round exit in Rotterdam. Zverev rebounded well from that loss to claim the title in Acapulco. While he will have been pleased to win his first title of the year and fourteenth overall, he knows that he has to be more consistent if he is to make a serious run at big tournaments. He was outstanding in Acapulco, using his serve to great effect and was more aggressive than normal. If that continues, he will become a serious threat as he tends to become very passive when in tight situations. Emil Ruusuvuori is considered one of the most promising young players on the ATP Tour and has made a bright start to his pro career. Currently ranked a career-high #83, he has steadily climbed the rankings and really looks like a good prospect. He had a strong showing in the First Round here at the 2021 Miami Open, defeating fellow young star Carlos Alcaraz in three sets, a win that will have given him tremendous confidence. He is a very solid baseliner that gives very little away, and while he enters this match against Alexander Zverev as a huge underdog, he has just the type of game that can frustrate the German star. Ruusuvuori will be relishing playing against one of the best players in the world here at the 2021 Miami Open and will no doubt be up for the challenge.
Alexander Zverev and Emil Ruusuvuori have never faced each other before on the ATP Tour, and their head to head record stands at 0-0. While the young Finn is a very exciting player and a top prospect for the future, he does not currently have the tools to overcome Alexander Zverev here. The German star has matured greatly as a player, and is not quite as prone to “upsets” as he has been in the past. Expect Ruusuvuori to give him a stern test, but ultimately Alexander Zverev will win here and advance to the Third Round at the 2021 Miami Open.
