And the Swede finally made his dominance count by picking up his first win on the lawn, beating Botic van de Zandschulp 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Liam Broady, on the other hand, booked his spot in the second round with a comfortable win over fellow wild card Jan Choinski. Broady, a title winner at the Challenger level this season, hasn’t set the world alight on grass in the manner he did in 2022. But he’s the kind of player who capitalizes on good draws and it wouldn’t really come as a surprise to see him make a run on home turf. But I’ve been more than impressed by Ymer’s general play, swinging with freedom from the hip, and he’s got a solid backhand to stand the test of Broady’s flat strokes.
