40th-ranked Miomir Kecmanovic takes on 59th-ranked Yibing Wu. But do not be fooled by the rankings here as the Chinese man is in better form, playing-wise, on grass. Wu scored a great win over Nick Kyrgios in Stuttgart (albeit an ailing Kyrgios), but it’s a win nonetheless. Even though he’s lost the last two matches, Wu has displayed a great show of resilience, taking a set from both Marton Fucsovics and Andrey Rublev. Kecmanovic, meanwhile, lost Milos Raonic in Rosmalen, which was such an eyebrow-raising result. Raonic hadn’t played in two years, and to come back and blow away the Serb the way he did raises some serious questions on whether the world no. 40 has the tools to make deep runs on grass. He did, however, give a good account of himself against Cameron Norrie at Queen’s in his other match on grass, but still lost in straight sets. Surely Kecmanovic can’t play as badly as he did in Rosmalen, and I feel he’s got a huge upside to his game on grass. Expecting this one to go the distance, but the Serb should pick up a valuable win before Wimbledon.
