Here we have the defending champion Ekaterina Alexandrova taking on world no. 186 Emina Bektas for a spot in the semifinals at the Libema Open. Alexandrova hasn’t dropped a set in both matches this week, although she was taken to a second-set tiebreak by Kimberly Birrell in her second-round match, the Russian powered through with her humongous serve. She will take on American Emina Bektas who qualified for this event and picked up a maiden main draw win on tour by beating Dalma Galfi 7-5, 7-6 in the first round. She doubled her win count with another straight sets win over fellow American Sachia Vickery. Bektas has a fine serve which can help her win cheap points, and her forehand from what I’ve seen so far is equally brilliant. But her two strengths are inconsistent too, and while she can get away with it at lower-level tournaments, that’s not the case here against the reigning champion.
