Alexander Shevchenko is set to make his main draw debut at Grand Slam level at this year’s French Open. Having broken the top 100 after a stellar first half of the season on the Challenger Tour, the Russian is looking to establish himself as a regular on the ATP Tour. So far, he’s shown genuine promise, especially on clay, where he reached the third round stage at both Madrid and Rome Masters. Opponent Oscar Ottte has scored just a couple of wins on clay this season, one of those being a stunner in his home country at the Munich Open when he defeated Sebastian Baez. So the German cannot be written off entirely here. He’s also pushed Alexander Zverev and Carballes Baena to five sets in each of his previous main draw matches at the French Open, so this one could very much be a long one. But we reckon Shevchenko is the man with the higher ceiling on the surface and should crown his debut with a momentous win.
