Andreescu vs Vondrousova Prediction
Bianca Andreescu and Marketa Vondrousova haven’t played each other on the WTA Tour with this second-round match at the Italian Open being their first competitive meeting. It’s a minor miracle that Andreescu has returned to the courts pretty quickly after aggravating a horrific ankle injury in Miami, less than two months ago, and the pictures of her leaving the court in a wheelchair were just overall desolating to watch. Thankfully, the injury was not as serious nor damaging as initially thought and the Canadian returned to action in Madrid where she lost in three to Xiyu Wang. That defeat ended Andreescu’s 12-match win streak against lefties, and considering that she was just a tiebreak away from the win certainly bodes well for her chances in Rome. Vondrousova is far from an ideal matchup on this surface, but the Czech hasn’t particularly looked comfortable on it in each of her last five matches, dropping a set in three of them. She’ll likely win here, but Andreescu will push her to the wire.
