Madrid Open 2023: Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jan-Lennard Struff Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2023 Madrid Open final match featuring Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jan-Lennard Struff on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jan-Lennard Struff Preview

Will Carlos Alcaraz claim a fourth Masters crown? Will Jan-Lennard Struff win his maiden title? This will be an interesting one, where we have the top seed facing a dangerous opponent. Who will triumph and claim the title at the 2023 Madrid Open?

Carlos Alcaraz took down Borna Coric in a physical, but straightforward match in the end winning 6-4 6-3. He’ll face Jan-Lennard Struff and will certainly come in as the heavy favorite. He’s been playing some great tennis and the conditions here suit his game perfectly. I expect him to rally the crowd behind him and cause the German quite a few problems with his speed and counterpunching abilities as he looks to defend his title at the 2023 Madrid Open.

Jan-Lennard Struff got past Aslan Karatsev in three sets, winning all of his matches in 3 sets to get to this point. Although Karatsev was injured, Struff upped his level after the 1st set and continued to do what had brought him success the last two weeks. He becomes the first-ever lucky loser to reach a Masters 1000 final, but it’s safe to say he’s the clear underdog as he takes on Carlos Alcaraz. Struff will need nothing short of a perfect serving day and to focus on winning the quick points, or else he won’t stand much of a chance to contend for the 2023 Madrid Open title.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jan-Lennard Struff Prediction and Pick

Carlos Alcaraz and Jan-Lennard Struff have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. The head-to-head would seem rather encouraging for Struff, seeing as he took him out in straights in the 2021 French Open and just barely lost to the Spaniard in five sets in Wimbledon last year. However, Alcaraz has improved significantly since then, particularly the first loss. The conditions here are definitely better for Alcaraz than for Struff, and although Struff has the ability to make the sets tight, I expect Alcaraz to defeat him in the end and become the champion here for a second time at the 2023 Madrid Open.
