Vienna Open 2021: Dan Evans vs. Carlos Alcaraz Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Vienna Open as Dan Evans meets Carlos Alcaraz in the First Round on Monday October 25th, 2021.

The field at the 2021 Vienna Open is a star-studded one, and there are quite a few blockbuster matches in the First Round. Dan Evans vs Carlos Alcaraz certainly fits that description, and this match is sure to be a highly entertaining one. The young Spaniard Alcaraz has turned heads over the past couple years with his strong play and multiple upsets, and Evans is as solid and reliable as they come. Who will get the win and advance to the Round of 16?

Dan Evans is ranked 23 on the ATP Tour and is unseeded here at the 2021 Vienna Open. The British number two started the season very strongly by winning his first title at the Murray River Open and reaching his first ever Masters-1000 Semi-Final in Monte-Carlo. However, he has been quite inconsistent since, and will be hoping to stabilize his season with a strong showing this week in Austria. He has been in decent form lately, defeating Kei Nishikori before losing in three sets to Diego Schwartzman at Indian Wells and he will be ready and rearing to go. Evans will be very eager to reclaim his spot as Britain’s top player after being surpassed by Cam Norrie last week, and that will be extra motivation here against the dangerous teenager Carlos Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz is the 42nd ranked player in the world and like his opponent Dan Evans is unseeded here at the 2021 Vienna Open. The teenage sensation is one of the most promising young players in world tennis and has been absolutely amazing this year, announcing himself as a staple in the world’s top 50, and his arrow is firmly pointing up. After an incredible run to the US Open Quarter-Finals he lost in the First Round at Indian Wells, and will be desperate to make amends here. The draw has not been kind to him here as Evans is a very tough and experienced opponent, and it will be incredible hard to get past him here. That being said, Alcaraz really seems to play freely and without pressure, so he will definitely be backing himself to win here.

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour and I am expecting a drama-filled and exciting match. It almost certainly will go all the way, and it is difficult to pick a winner. Both men have a very good chance at winning, but I am going to go with Dan Evans to win here. Knowing him, he will have a huge chip on his shoulder after losing the title of top ranked British player, and his unorthodox game will be difficult for Carlos Alcaraz to handle. The youngster is certainly capable of blowing Evans off the court if everything breaks his way, but the odds are in the more experienced player’s favor. I think that Dan Evans will get a very close win here, advancing to the Round of 16 at the 2021 Vienna Open.
