TennisSection previews the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters third-round match featuring Jannik Sinner vs Hubert Hurkacz on Thursday, April 13, 2023.
Sinner vs Hurkacz Match Preview and Prediction
Jannik Sinner and Hubert Hurkacz will put friendship to one side when they clash for a spot in the quarterfinal of the Monte-Carlo Masters. Who will prevail?
Jannik Sinner progressed safely into the third round with a retirement win over Diego Schwartzman. Sinner dismantled the diminutive Argentine who just couldn’t rally all afternoon. After taking a MTO on what appeared to be a shoulder injury, Schwartzman called it quits while trailing 0-6, 1-3. Sinner will attempt to reach a second straight quarterfinal at the Monte-Carlo Masters when he locks horns against good friend Hubert Hurkacz.
It’s been quite the rollercoaster for Hubert Hurkacz to get into the third round of the Monte-Carlo Masters. After saving a match point in his three-hour epic against Laslo Djere, Hurkacz fought off the challenge of Next Gen star Jack Draper. Hurkacz broke from 0-40 down in the final game of the match to complete a 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 win over the last remaining Briton in the draw in two hours and 31 minutes.
Sinner vs Hurkacz Prediction and Pick
Hubert Hurkacz leads Jannik Sinner 2-1 in their head-to-head. None of their three meetings have been contested on clay. Sinner has tallied double-digit wins on the surface in each of the past two seasons and is widely seen as an all-court threat. So the Italian will certainly have a greater advantage in that respect when he plays the Pole at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Hurkacz’s struggles in adapting to the terre batue were evident in each of his last three matches. I don’t foresee a scenario where Sinner fails to close this one routinely.
