Alex de Minaur has been playing pretty good lately, being able to make it deeper into tournaments before losing out to the top guys. Jordan Thompson is certainly not one of those guys though, and I think this one is in the cards for de Minaur, who will surely love the conditions here with a little bit more humidity and a lower bouncing ball. Thompson isn’t really able to have too consistent of results, so I don’t expect him to put on too much of a fight against the younger Australian who aims to reach the Round of 32 at the 2022 Miami Open.
Jordan Thompson has been going out early in quite a few tournaments for a while now, and while he can play at a solid level as we saw in his first round match, his opponent here is much tougher in Alex de Minaur. The “demon” will really love the conditions and he’ll be enjoying the matchup even more, I think he’ll be able to draw plenty of errors and play much more aggressively as he looks to progress to the latter stages of the 2022 Miami Open.
Alex de Minaur and Jordan Thompson have met four times before, with Alex de Minaur leading the head to head 3-1. It’s a good match up for de Minaur, who is able to play at a brilliant level when he’s on and playing aggressively, but as for Thompson, he really won’t be able to do much here. He doesn’t have many weapons, and with how consistently de Minaur can play, especially in these kinds of conditions, I have little doubt that de Minaur won’t take this one and move on at the 2022 Miami Open.
