TennisSection previews the 2021 Vienna Open as Jannik Sinner (7) meets Reilly Opelka in the First Round on Wednesday October 27th, 2021.
Newly crowned Antwerp Open champion Jannik Sinner begins his 2021 Vienna Open Campaign with a tricky First Round match against the giant American Reilly Opelka. The Italian has been making waves on the ATP Tour with his outstanding performances, and will have his eyes set on a strong finish to the season as he is still alive in the race to Turin. Can he continue his strong recent play? Or can the huge serving Opelka get the win here and advance to the Round of 16?
Jannik Sinner is a fast-rising star on the ATP Tour, and at only 20 years of age has already won five ATP Tournaments and is ranked eleventh in the world. The young Italian star has already won a whopping four titles this season and is making a late surge for one of the final spots in the year end event in Turin. He has built some serious momentum heading into this event and is one of the major favorites for the title here at the 2021 Vienna Open. However, he has been handed a very tricky draw here and will face the huge-serving Reilly Opelka in the First Round. Sinner is still considered the massive favorite here given his form, but players can sometimes drop their guard and lose focus after a big win, and his opponent will be ready to take advantage if he slips up.
Reilly Opelka is unseeded here at the 2021 Vienna Open and is currently ranked 27th in the ATP world rankings. Opelka possesses one of the biggest weapons on the ATP Tour in his huge serve, and he will need that to be firing on all cylinders if he is to defeat his opponent Jannik Sinner. The Italian is one of the most in-form players in the world at the moment, and it will take something special to defeat him here. Despite the odds being stacked against him here, someone with this kind of firepower at their disposal should never be truly discounted, and this has the potential to be a great match here in Austria.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and I am expecting some serious fireworks here. Jannik Sinner is one of the best players in the world at the moment, and Reilly Opelka has caused some major upsets in the past. Sinner is the obvious favorite and everything is pointing in the direction of him winning, but the American has been known to go “God-mode” with his serve, and when that is clicking he can cause some serious damage. However, I am still siding with the Italian to get the win here, as too many things have to go right for Opelka to win here, even though it is possible. I am expecting a huge battle with lots of aces and exciting stroke play, but ultimately Sinner will win and move on to the Round of 16 here at the 2021 Vienna Open.
