TennisSection previews the 2023 Miami Masters third-round match featuring Tommy Paul vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
Tommy Paul vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Match Preview
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina lost a five-set barn burner at this year’s Aussie Open to Tommy Paul. Will he get his revenge at the Miami Masters?
Tommy Paul is well on his way to even bigger things this season. But he faces an incredibly tough matchup on Sunday at the Miami Masters. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina led the American in their Australian Open clash but ended up losing in five. And after watching Paul struggle to put away Marc-Andrea Huesler in his opening match, maybe the Spaniard could get his revenge.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina earned a straight sets win over Next Gen champion Brandon Nakashima to advance into the third round of the Miami Masters. The match itself was extremely tight. Both players were impressive on serve, with just three breaks in the whole match. The Spaniard accounted for two of those and won the second set in a tiebreak.
Tommy Paul vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Prediction and Pick
Tommy Paul leads Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 1-0 in their head-to-head. He won that clash in the second round of this year’s Australian Open, storming back from 2-sets to one down to win in five. Davidovich Fokina has been a pebble in the shoes of the ATP’s best this season. And he has continued to showcase his all-court game on hard courts. Both players are clean hitters, and although Paul’s consistency makes him the favorite, the Spaniard has the tools to make Paul’s life very difficult at the Miami Masters. It’s a no-brainer he looks like a decent value at +130.
